Waterford Sports Partnership was delighted to see such a great turnout for the Dungarvan Railway Walk, the second walk in the Walk Waterford Autumn Series, even though the weather was a bit inclement eighteen people met on Sunday to enjoy the walk.
This walk is unique to Waterford, it has been developed on the old railway track and as result is mostly off road and is predominately flat making it perfect for all levels and abilities. It is well used by locals for walking, cycling and running and is easy to find once you get to Dungarvan. The full trail is 12km, for Sundays walk we completed nearly 4km making it perfect for those looking for a leisure stroll. A special thanks to volunteer Maria Nieuwenhuizen who assisted us on this walk. If you would like to assist WSP with leading walks, please contact us to discuss completing the Irish Heart Foundation’s Slí na Sláinte Leader Training.
Walk Waterford is designed to give Waterford people the opportunity to experience some of the many fantastic walks Waterford has to offer. This free programme incorporates a series of five walks across the County. It is aimed at those looking for a leisure stroll on easy terrain.
The next walk is The Dunes Tramore, this coming Sunday 30th September. The meeting point is the car park opposite the Majestic Hotel, Tramore at 2pm. This is a lovely flat 5km walk which is ideal for man and canine alike. We will stroll to the start of the Dunes crossing at the rocks and returning the same way. It will take approximately an hour and a half. Walkers need only flat walking shoes; runners are ideal, warm clothing and a waterproof jacket. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Hope to see you there!
