Active Body Active Mind - Week 2

Week two of the Active Body Active Mind Programme in Dunhill and participants were introduced to the wonderful world of walking in Waterford! Nine women took part in a workshop in Dunhill Education Centre and a walk on the Anne Valley Trail.

Before setting out on the walk participants discussed tips for walking in everyday life and learned about the psychological, social and physical benefits of walking. Participants were given a pack which included a high visibility bag, a high visibility vest, a flashing light, a step counter and information on local walking opportunities in Waterford. The group tried out different types of walking including strolling, striding, power walking and race walking and learned the proper posture for walking. For the second part of the workshop the group got to practice these walking techniques at the nearby Anne Valley Trail; a perfect example of the beautiful local walking routes available on our doorstep.  Along the trail, participants were shown how to use their step counters and switched between the different types of walking to highlight the varying intensity and step count with each type. The group even got a well deserved cup of tea on route!

Week three of the programme will see the participants taking part in a Buying and Preparing your own Food module and a Gaelic Football session. Well done to all taking part.
