Olympic Boxing Coach Trains Waterford Students

Head coach of the Irish Amateur Boxing High Performance Unit, Billy Walsh, paid a visit to St. Paul's Community College to share highlights of his career as both a former Boxer and Head Coach of the current Irish Senior National Team. Boxing is now an extracurricular activity in the school, following the success of two Boxing programmes implemented by Waterford Sports

After delivering a motivational talk and sharing the secrets to Katie Taylor’s Olympic Gold medal success to 5th & 6th year students, Billy conducted a short coaching session for the students who recently took up Boxing in the school. Showing the true professionalism of an Olympic coach, Billy coached each student individually and corrected them on their technique and gave them invaluable tips on how to improve their footwork and punching technique.

Waterford Sports Partnership would like to sincerely thank Mr. Jerry McQuaid, who was instrumental in bringing Billy Walsh to St. Paul’s Community College and also to thank Billy Walsh for giving his valuable time so generously to our up and coming boxers. He may have even inspired our next Olympian!
