Surfing for Young People

Waterford Sports Partnership in association with T- Bay Surf Centre hosted a certified four week Surfing Programme for young people aged 14-16 years. Participants on the Programme were from; Manor St. John Youth Project, St. Paul’s School Completion and Inner City Youth Project.

The Programme covered the following topics; safety in the water, warm-up & stretching techniques before surfing, how to ‘pop up’ on the board, how to ‘catch’ a wave, how to conserve energy whilst out surfing.

The determination of the young people was something to behold, as all seemed adamant that they were going to get to the point of standing up on the board. Not only was this achieved but they got to the point of been able to ‘catch’ a few waves by the time the Programme was complete.

Waterford Sports Partnership would like to congratulate the eight young people for receiving their certification. Special thanks must go to the T-Bay Surf instructors for their excellent teaching skills in getting the participants to this level.

Waterford Sports Partnership and T- Bay Surf Centre have joined forces to make Surfing more cost effective for YOUTH GROUPS/ORGANISATIONS. Surf boards are available on loan and T-Bay are offering a special rate for instruction.
